Key Point to Remember
Not all supplements or lick barrels are the same
Consumption rates vary between brands and between types of barrels. You may be able to find other lick barrels that are cheaper by the ton, BUT are they cheaper by the day?
For Example:
You have a Blueprint 30% Protein barrel with a full organic mineral package and it is $185/barrel, $1480/ton, $0.74 per pound.
Cows will consume, on average 3/4 pound per head per day, which would be 55.5 cents per day.
Now you found a steal of a deal on "Supplement B" 30% protein barrel with an economy line mineral package of non chelated minerals for only $109/barrel, $872/ton, $0.436 per pound.
"Supplement B" is produced using liquid corn syrup making it higher moisture, so the consumption rate is 2 to 3 pounds per day. So, a cows cost per head per day would be $1.09 with an average consumption rate of 2.5 pounds.
Now that steal of a deal on "Supplement B" does not seem like such a good deal does it?
